The illustrations done for The Shark Sessions are writer-to-reader messages in images instead of words. Using a combination of soaked watercolour paper, ink, bleach, and water for the black and white illustrations, I tried to convey something of the spirit of each scene rather than produce a polished work such as one would do for a gallery. The coloured works are paintings done in airbrushed acrylics; some are watercolours. Click on the arrows below to go through them.
This is the only illustration showing me with the sharks, since I always visited them alone. I painted it as an afterthought—if I didn't put myself in one, perhaps people might not picture how we were together. Later, a print was displayed in the epic exhibition SHARK in the Fort Lauderdale Art Museum in 2012. Here it is adapted for the cover of THE SHARK SESSIONS.
